The Equal Rights Amendment: From Ratification to Realization

  • Webinar United States (map)

This 90-min webinar will address efforts to realize federal and state constitution ERAs. The Equal Rights Amendment is the single most important means of protecting women's legal rights, and the rights of all Americans, to be free from government-based sex discrimination.

The ABA Commission on Women in the Profession invites you to hear from a stellar panel of lawyers to learn about the current status of the Equal Rights Amendment and what you can do to make a difference.

Moderated by Jill Wine-Banks, television and radio commentator & author of The Watergate Girl

Featuring Ting Ting Cheng, director of the ERA Project at the NYU School of Law; Linda Coberly, co-chair of the litigation department with Winston & Strawn LLP; and Hon. Delissa Ridgway, judge on the U.S. Court of International Trade.

With special remarks from American Bar Association President Michelle Behnke and Commission on Women in the Profession Chair Karol Corbin Walker.

In January of 2020, the Equal Rights Amendment was ratified by Virginia, the final state needed for the ERA to be the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution. In January of 2025, President Biden declared the ERA the "law of the land." However, the ERA has yet to be implemented as part of the Constitution. Meanwhile, over half the states include "mini ERAs" in their own state constitutions, with more being added each year. This webinar will address legal and advocacy efforts to realize federal and state ERAs. The Equal Rights Amendment is the single most important means of protecting women's rights, and the rights of all Americans, to be free from government-based sex discrimination.
